A Brief History of Toowong Private Hospital

Toowong Private Hospital was built in early 1975 by N.A. Kratzmann & Sons Pty. Ltd. and opened as "Toowong Clinic" by the then Health Minister, Dr. Llew Edwards on the 10th of May, 1976. Dr. Edwards officially opened the hospital with the theme of "improvements of psychiatric conditions and services in Queensland."

Since that time, Toowong Private Hospital has continued to grow and evolve in mental health care service provision, including the continued Accreditation by the Australian Council of Health Care Standards since 1997.

Toowong Private Hospital Today

Toowong Private Hospital is a 54 bed private acute psychiatric mental health service fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) . It is located 5km from the CBD in the Brisbane suburb of Toowong.

The Hospital is a teaching hospital of The University of Queensland and offers a range of inpatient, day patient programs and general acute psychiatry.

The hospital is privately owned by the Kratzmann family who are committed to providing superior services and promoting mental health and well being.

The Hospital is recognised for providing excellence in health care and is a leader in the private psychiatric sector.
